±Modern Dance Lessons
Our Modern dance class introduces the fundamental principles of Modern dance and will build week to week. Basic movement concepts such as over curve/under curve and contraction/release of the torso, articulation of the spine, and modern dance vocabulary will be taught and reviewed in depth. Classes will also focus on proper alignment, musicality, and center work. This class will break down the movement and provide students with exercises that build strength, increase flexibility and provide a foundation that can be applied to all dance styles, even tap. No previous dance experience is necessary.
Modern dance emphasizes the use of the floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement. This class focuses on the breath (inhale/exhale), which brings quality to one's movement. Concepts of overcurve/undercurve, contraction/release, musicality and rhythm are explored.
Classes will include modern dance basics, essential positions and movement styles. Students will explore various movements, spacial relationships and rhythmic patterns including percussive time. Young modern dancers who have completed at least 1 to 2 years in a modern or ballet technique will develop their skills and begin to explore lyrical patterns. Student who have completed extensive basics in modern dance will pursue more complex movements and various techniques and styles, and the most advanced students will learn the hardest movements and patterns.
